The College of Life Science and Technology at Beijing University of Chemical Technology, established on December 25, 2003, adheres to the philosophy of “not seeking the largest, but the best; not seeking comprehensiveness, but excellence.” It offers a complete talent cultivation system from bachelor's to doctoral degrees, featuring four undergraduate programs—including two national first-class majors and one Beijing municipal first-class major—alongside multiple master's and doctoral programs, with chemical engineering and technology as a national first-class discipline and bioengineering ranked among the top-tier disciplines in the fifth round of Ministry of Education assessments. The college hosts prominent research platforms such as the National Key Laboratory of Green Bio-manufacturing and the National Energy Bio-refining R&D Center, and boasts a faculty of over 100 members, including academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and recipients of major national talent awards. With strong research capabilities in green bio-manufacturing, synthetic biology, biomedicine, and bio-safety, the college has secured nearly 200 national and provincial research projects in the past five years, with funding approaching RMB 400 million, published over 1,200 high-level papers (including four in Nature, three in Cell, one in Science, and one in The Lancet), been granted nearly 200 patents, and won two National Technology Invention Awards (second class), one National Science and Technology Progress Award (second class), and 16 provincial/ministerial awards. The college also places high priority on talent development, with students regularly achieving outstanding results in international competitions such as iGEM and the national “Challenge Cup” contests, and maintains consistently high rates of postgraduate admission, overseas study, and employment.
