Psychotic depression (PD) is a clinically heterogeneous and high-risk subtype of major depressive disorder (MDD) and has a relatively high prevalence among adolescents. Compared with non-psychotic depression (NPD), adolescent PD is often characterized by an earlier age of onset, longer illness duration, higher rates of recurrence and rehospitalization, and a significantly increased risk of suicidal ideation and behavior. The recognition and assessment of PD in adolescents also present substantial challenges in clinical practice, particularly in distinguishing it from bipolar disorder (BD), which requires careful attention. In terms of treatment, although an increasing number of therapeutic options are available for PD, including antidepressant or antipsychotic monotherapy and various combination regimens, these approaches still require further clinical investigation and validation. Therefore, there is currently no consensus on the optimal treatment strategy for adolescent PD.

This live session aims to explore the latest research advances in the diagnosis and treatment of psychotic depression (PD) in adolescents, with the goal of helping clinicians better identify and assess the condition and provide more targeted treatment.
