The Editorial Office of Gene & Protein in Disease (GPD) is delighted to announce that Prof. Dr. Kenneth Blum and Prof. Dr. Panayotis K. Thanos have officially assumed their roles as the new Co-Editors-in-Chief of the journal.
Prof. Dr. Kenneth Blum is affiliated with the Graduate School of Biomedical Science at Western University of Health Sciences, Pomona, California, United States, among other academic institutions. He is a distinguished scientist with extensive expertise in psychopharmacology, psychiatric genetics, and molecular neuroscience. His research interests encompass the genetics of addiction, neuropsychiatric disorders, reward deficiency syndrome, nutritional genetics, and pharmacogenetics. With decades of academic and research experience, Prof. Blum has made significant contributions to understanding the genetic and neurobiological mechanisms underlying addictive behaviors and neurological and psychiatric disorders, particularly the relationship between genetic variations, neurotransmitter function, and disease susceptibility.
Prof. Dr. Panayotis K. Thanos is affiliated with the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, University at Buffalo, New York, United States. He is an accomplished neuroscientist specializing in behavioral neuropharmacology, neuroimaging, and the molecular mechanisms of addiction and neurological disorders. His research focuses on dopaminergic reward signaling, genetic and neurobiological mechanisms of addiction, obesity and related disorders, and the effects of pharmacological and behavioral interventions on brain function. Through his extensive work integrating molecular biology, genetics, neuroimaging, and translational neuroscience, Prof. Thanos has contributed significantly to advancing our understanding of brain function, reward-related disorders, and potential therapeutic strategies.
With their extensive academic achievements, international research experience, and complementary expertise in genetics, molecular neuroscience, and translational medicine, Prof. Blum and Prof. Thanos bring valuable scientific perspectives and academic leadership to GPD. Their research backgrounds closely align with the journal's mission to advance interdisciplinary research exploring the complex relationships between genes, proteins, and human diseases, while promoting the translation of fundamental molecular discoveries into clinical applications.
As the new Co-Editors-in-Chief, Prof. Blum and Prof. Thanos will jointly provide academic leadership and strategic guidance to GPD, supporting the journal in further strengthening its editorial standards, international visibility, scientific quality, and scholarly impact. Under their leadership, GPD will continue to promote high-quality research across genetics, molecular biology, proteomics, neuroscience, oncology, immunology, and other related biomedical disciplines, while fostering international academic collaboration and encouraging innovative approaches to understanding disease mechanisms, diagnosis, and treatment.
The Editorial Office warmly welcomes Prof. Dr. Kenneth Blum and Prof. Dr. Panayotis K. Thanos to their new roles and looks forward to working closely with them, the Editorial Board, authors, reviewers, and readers to further advance the development of GPD and strengthen its position as an international platform for high-quality research in molecular and translational medicine.
