01 January 2026

We are pleased to announce that eight leading experts in the field of bioprinting have officially joined the International Journal of Bioprinting Editorial Board. These internationally recognized scholars bring extensive expertise across bioprinting, biofabrication, biomaterials and translational biomedical applications, and will contribute to strengthening the journal’s academic rigor and global impact. The new Editorial Board Members are listed below:

Prof. Mahdi Bodaghi | Nottingham Trent University, UK

Dr. Mahdi Bodaghi is Associate Professor of Smart Materials & Manufacturing in the Department of Engineering, the School of Science and Technology at Nottingham Trent University. He actively pursues research on Smart Materials, Bio-composites, Metamaterials, Robotic Materials, Bio-inspired Design, Constitutive Modelling, 3D and 4D Printing (Additive Manufacturing) Technologies.

Prof. Zhong Alan Li | The Chinese University of Hong Kong, China

Dr. Alan is a Vice-chancellor Assistant Professor of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He and his team utilize advanced biomaterials, human stem cells, and novel fabrication processes and culture platforms to engineer tissues for neuromusculoskeletal repair and regeneration,  modeling human neuromusculoskeletal diseases to understand pathological mechanisms, evaluating the safety and efficacy of potential drugs in a high-throughput manner, and developing precision medicine that addresses patient heterogeneity for improved patient outcomes.

Dr. Ali Zolfagharian | Deakin University, Australia

Dr. Ali Zolfagharian is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering at Deakin University, Australia, where he also leads the 4D Printing and Robotic Materials Lab. His research focuses on advanced additive manufacturing, including mechanical design and engineering, additive and metal additive manufacturing, smart materials and structures, and 4D printing technologies, with applications spanning flexible manipulators, soft grippers, robotic materials, soft robotics, and bioprinting.

Prof. Stephanie Willerth | University of Victoria, Canada

Dr. Stephanie Willerth is a full Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Victoria. Her research program focuses on tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, 3D bioprinting, biomaterials, and stem cell–based approaches to generate functional human tissue models, particularly for complex neural tissues, by integrating advanced bioprinting technologies with biomaterial scaffolds to control stem cell differentiation and function.

Prof. Vahid Serpooshan | UT Health Houston, USA

Dr. Vahid Serpooshan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and Scientific Director of the Children’s Heart Institute (CHI) at McGovern Medical School, UTHealth Houston. His research focuses on 3D bioprinting-based tissue engineering, particularly cardiac tissue regeneration, engineered cardiac patches, and disease modeling, with an emphasis on translational and clinically relevant bioprinting and biomaterial technologies.

Prof. Keekyoung Kim |  University of Calgary, Canada

Dr. Keekyoung Kim is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering and Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Calgary. His research focuses on 3D bioprinting, biofabrication, biomaterials, tissue engineering, organ-on-a-chip systems, and related bioengineering technologies aimed at developing advanced platforms for regenerative medicine, disease modelling, and translational biomedical applications.

Prof. JOSE LUIS PEDRAZ MUÑOZ  | Universidad del Pais Vasco, Spain

Dr. José Luis Pedraz Muñoz is a Professor in the Department of Pharmacy and Food Sciences at the Universidad del Pais Vasco. He leads research in pharmaceutical technology, biomaterials, micro- and nanotechnologies, and advanced drug delivery systems, with active work on controlled release formulations, drug and gene delivery, tissue engineering scaffolds, and 3D bioprinting for biomedical applications through the NanoBioCel research group.

Prof. Min Zhang | Jiangnan University, China

Dr. Min Zhang is a Second-Level Professor and the Zhishan Distinguished Professor at Jiangnan University. He is a national-level talent of the “Hundred, Thousand, and Ten Thousand Talents Program” and a recipient of the Special Government Allowance of the State Council. He concurrently serves as Director of the International Joint Laboratory for Intelligent Processing and Quality Monitoring of Fresh Foods in Jiangsu Province and Director of the Key Laboratory for Fresh Food Processing and Preservation under the China Commercial Federation. In 2024, he was elected Fellow of the International Academy of Drying Research and Foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Engineering.

We warmly welcome our new Editorial Board Members and look forward to their valuable contributions to the journal’s academic development and global bioprinting community.
